San Antonio Fighting Back, Inc. Executive Vice President, Linda J. Tippins was awarded the prestigious Jefferson Award on Thursday, June 17th at United Way's Night of a 1,000 Stars. Ms. Tippins, a grassroots organizer for over a decade was recognized for her commitment to helping those in need by lending a hand to solve problems.

The Jefferson Awards were established in 1972 by the American Institute for Public Service, and founded by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft and Sam Beard. The awards were created to recognize and encourage outstanding community and public service and are presented on both local and national levels.

Ms. Tippins was presented with a bronze medallion, at United Way's awards ceremony, that was commissioned and donated by the Franklin Mint.

Before being presented with the Jefferson Award, Ms. Tippins raised her head and both arms to the ceiling in commemoration of her 100 year-old grandmother, Minnie Ola Kyle, who passed away on May 17th. Ms. Tippins said, "Had it not been for the Lord and her on my side, where would I be? I am humbled by this recognition and I will continue to be an advocate and organizer for my community of San Antonio, my state of Texas, and my country of the United States. God Bless America!"

The staff at Fighting Back let loose when Ms. Tippins was awarded the bronze medal for the countless hours and resources she has given the community she cares about. The city she lives and works in applauds her as well!
