Learn the Ugly Truth!
Meth Awareness Day - Town Hall Meeting

L to R:  Daryl Fields w/United States Attorney's Office, Gyna Gonzales w/San Antonio Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Kirk Flippin w/Texas Decon, Ken Albrecht w/San Antonio Police Department

San Antonio Fighting Back, Inc. joined forces with six other agencies to educate the public about the ugly truth of Methamphetamine use.

Methamphetamine is also known as meth, crank or speed.  Meth is an addictive central nervous system stimulant that affects you, your family, your home and your community.  Even if you’re not using, you are affected.

A meth lab can operate unnoticed in any neighborhood for years, causing serious health hazards to everyone around. What meth does to your body, your children, and your community is information you need to know.

To get the word out, The Drug Enforcement Administration, the US Attorney’s Office, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the SAPD Narcotic’s Division, & the Texas National Guard, along with other agencies, held a town hall meeting in the at Crossroads Mall on November 30th – National Meth Awareness Day.  Over 120 people attended the town hall meeting to learn the “Ugly Truth about Meth – Meth Destroys Families”.

This free event was offered to the community to give them a chance to ask questions and get answers about Methamphetamine abuse in San Antonio .  One local educator from an alternative High School wanted to know how to deal with teens that are outspoken about their drug use.  Darrell Boyce, Prevention Coordinator with San Antonio Fighting Back, explained that often it is cry for help when youth confide in adults about their drug use and that the adult should take this as an opportunity to help them find resources and assistance to avoid drug abuse.  If you want more information or would like a presentation about meth please contact San Antonio Fighting Back ‘s Meth Prevention Partnership Team at 210-271-7232.  For a 24/7 state wide drug abuse hot line call 1-877-9-No-Drug.
