World
AIDS Day, established by the World Health Organization in 1988, is the
global day of observance joining the partnerships of world wide
governments, national AIDS programs, churches, communities, and
individuals to Educate, Motivate and Mobilize against HIV/AIDS. Over
twelve local agencies will join to remember those who died from
HIV/AIDS, to promote awareness and to encourage individuals to take

Bexar
County reported in 2005 that, locally, over 5000 youth ages 13-22
are infected with either STDs, HIV, or are dually infected. The San
Antonio Independent School District had the highest percentage of
STD’s with Edgewood not far behind.
With
an estimated 38.6 million people worldwide living with HIV at the
end of 2005, and more than 25 million people having died of AIDS
since 1981, December 1st serves to remind everyone that action makes
a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. |
