The YCWA is a national program that teaches students to stand up and say no to drugs, crime, and violence.  The program is designed to empower children and to help them make a positive difference in their community and schools.  They learn to take ownership and work with others in their community. YCWA promotes good citizenship where youth are seen as part of the solution and take an active role in addressing the problems around them.

SAFB took the largest delegation to the conference held in Denver , Colorado , with 59 staff, adults, and students from Harlandale Middle School , Bowden Elementary, Harris Middle School , and Laura Steele Elementary.

“This year’s conference was especially rewarding because of the impact San Antonio Fighting Back, Inc. was able to make on the Youth Crime Watch community.  Aside from the Casey Award recognitions, Bowden and Steele Elementaries performed dances and skits during the opening ceremonies.   SAFB was directly involved in the planning of special events for the conference as well as co-facilitating two workshops and hosting a special elementary school briefing with Associate Commissioner Harry Wilson.  By the time we left Colorado , everyone knew who we were and where we were from,” said Rachel Trinidad.
