Mission Statement

To work to enable people within the local community to create a safe, healthy, and caring environment for children, youth, and their families by developing a continuum of care to address the root causes and symptoms of drug related crime, substance abuse, victimization, and violence as well as to reduce the opportunities for related harm to occur.

Vision Statement

To design and implement strategies to address the needs of the community identified through community assessment and developed through community partnerships.

2006-2007 Outcomes

During the first year of the Communities Empowering Youth program, 16 organizations were chosen for financial assistance and to participate in technical training.  Over the first 12 months, CEY partner organizations attended workshops that enabled them to: complete a 1023 Application to become eligible for 501C3 status; develop a two-fold board that consisted of an advisory board and an executive board; and learn about sustainability, grant writing, capacity building collaboration, and child and substance abuse.

Several CEY partner organizations have achieved the following objectives:

Two CEY partner organizations have received 501C3 status.

Two CEY partner organizations have begun a mentoring program at local school districts.

Two CEY partner organizations have successfully written Economic Development proposals and received $25,000 grants each.

One CEY partner organization collaborated with the Department of Health and Human Services during Child Abuse Awareness Month in April 2007.  The event titled 'Blue Sunday' involved non-profit community and church organizations to reflect on victims of child abuse.

All CEY partner organizations sponsored 16 youth to attend the 2008 PRIDE Youth Conference held in Cincinnati, OH which focused on underage drinking, HIV/AIDS awareness, and substance abuse.
