Choosing Healthy Alternatives for Mental, Physical, and Spiritual Success (CHAMPSS) [Funded by United Way of San Antonio] - This coalition involves youth-serving organizations and faith-based organizations to provide opportunities for inner-city youth to participate in sports, educational, spiritual and community enrichment programs; to build hope and confidence and encourage youth to make positive and healthy choices; and turn away from negative environments and substances.

 
     
     
     
         
    Communities Empowering Youth (CEY) [Funded by the Administration for Children and Families] - The CEY program is comprised of  several partners from faith and community-based organizations.  The purpose of CEY is to support each partner by providing resources, funding and training to assist in building their programs in violence, prevention and child abuse initiatives.  Each partner has their own program designed to empower, mentor, and develop youth in their community.  
     
     
     
         
    Drug Free Mentor - As an existing Drug Free Community grantee, SAFB (mentors) to support development and/or expansion of new community coalitions (mentees) that are focused on strengthening communities and reducing substance abuse among youth.  The program is designed to achieve two goals:
bullet Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
bullet Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.  (Substances include, but are not limited to, narcotics, depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, cannabis, inhalants, alcohol and tobacco, where their use is prohibited by Federal, State, or local law.
 
     
     
     
         
    Faith In Action - Faith In Action is an interfaith initiative comprised of volunteers from various religious institutions and organizations that have joined forces to reduce substance abuse and the spread of HIV/AIDS by providing education and awareness programs in their communities.  
     
     
     
         
    Methamphetamine Prevention Partnership [Funded by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Administration] - The purpose is to establish collaborations, direct services, and partnerships in order to prevent and intervene effectively, in the abuse and/or spread of methamphetamine in San Antonio.  This program offers Meth presentations to schools, fairs, businesses, neighborhoods, and community organizations.  Working directly with the Bexar County Drug Courts and the Access to Recovery Program, SAFB also offers a multitude of resources to offenders transitioning back into the community.  
     
     
     
         
   

PRIDE Youth Academy [Funded by the San Antonio Housing Authority] - The Youth Academy is a youth-led initiative that gives 100% to creating a safe and healthy environment through drug intervention and prevention seminars and community service projects.  Youth Academy coordinators provide members with the tools and resources to address issues that affect the lives of their family and community.

 
     
     
     
         
    Project SUCCESS [Funded by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse] - Project SUCCESS is a collaboration between schools, community organizations and treatment centers that work with youth and their parents in the Enterprise/Empowerment Zone.  Through a drug prevention education series, individual and group counseling, parent programs, and a treatment referral program, the collaboration works to create a healthy and drug-free environment for youth and their families.  
     
     
     
         
   

The Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) [Funded by the San Antonio Independent School District] - The Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers is a collaboration between schools, community organizations, businesses and service providers to plan, expand and integrate education, and support services in after-school programs to address the needs of children, youth and their families.

 
     
     
     
     
         
   

Weed & Seed Collaboration [Funded by Department of Justice, Executive Office of Weed & Seed] - This collaboration has brought together more than 100 community-based organizations and 79 neighborhood associations to reduce drug trafficking in neighborhoods; provide drug prevention activities for young children; conduct neighborhood restoration activities; and increase treatment and health care services.  The Weed & Seed Collaborative also works in partnership with the military as a community resource for neighborhood clean-ups and demolishing "crack houses".  To date, 91 properties have been demolished and replaced with 54 single-family dwellings as part of an affordable housing strategy.

 
     
     
     
     
         
   

Young Offenders/Ex-Offenders Re-entry Coalition [Funded by the Department of Justice Executive Office of Weed and Seed] - This Faith-based Coalition works to keep young offenders ages 17-29 from re-offending by responding to their needs -- like job training, family counseling, community service, housing and job placement.  This program is implemented by Faith Outreach and faith-based volunteers from the Bexar County Detention Ministries.  This program helps ex-offenders and substance abusers successfully rejoin the community.  It has experienced an 85% success rate with 193 participants.

 
     
     
     
         
   

Youth Crime and Drug Watch Coalition [Funded by Youth Crime Watch of America] - This Coalition consists of over 114 Youth Crime and Drug Watch Clubs from schools, public housing sites, and community centers.  These youth-led Clubs work to create drug-free and crime-free environments in schools and neighborhoods.  These Clubs are founded on the principle of good citizenship, where youth are seen as part of the solution and take an active role in addressing the problems around them.
